Dear all,
We would like to invite you to the „Berlin Seminar on Energy and Climate Policy“ (BSEC) jointly with Öko Institut, PIK, Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik, Wuppertal Institute, TU-Berlin and Ecologic Institute:
The Rebound Effect – Overrated Phenomenon or still the Elefant in the Room?
Tuesday, 19 April 2016, 12:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
(Sandwich lunch served from 12:15)
DIW Berlin (Schumpeter Hall)
Mohrenstraße 58, 10117 Berlin (U Stadtmitte)
Dr. Hermann E. Ott, Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment, and Energy
Dr. Tilman Santarius, Germanwatch, TU Berlin
Dr. Julika Weiß, Institute for Ecological Economic Research (IÖW)
For some decades now the Rebound Effect divides the energy and resource communities. Views range from a virtual negation of the effect to the opinion that it ‚eats up‘ most of the efficiency gains. In our seminar we will first provide a short overview of the experiences in the Parliamentary Commission (Enquete-Kommission) of the last Bundestag on „Growth, Prosperity and Quality of Life“ who delivered a consensus view of the rebound effect across all political Parties by one of its former members, Hermann Ott. Afterwards, Tilman Santarius will present the findings and insights of his PhD research into the effect and finally, Julika Weiß will present the results of a study on the rebound effects in the energetical retrofitting of buildings. A hopefully lively discussion will ensue and shed some light on the theoretical, conceptual and practical experiences of participants.
To register, please send a short email to kli-team@diw.de, so that we can judge the catering needs.
We are looking forward to your participation and a good discussion.
Best wishes
Karsten Neuhoff and Hermann Ott
