From 6th to 17th November 2017, the 23rd Conference of the Parties (COP23) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) was held in Bonn under the presidency of Fiji. Hermann Ott and collegues from the Wuppertal Institute who attended the conference have now published an in-depth analysis of the key results of the conference.

Logo Wuppertal InstitutFrom 6 to 17 November, the 23rd Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP23) was held in Bonn under the presidency of Fiji. Among the key issues addressed at the conference were defining implementation rules for the Paris Agreement, support for countries in the Global South in dealing with the effects of climate change and preparation of the first global review of climate action in time for COP24 in Katowice, Poland, at the end of next year.

Am 12. Dezember 2015 hat die 21. Vertragsstaatenkonferenz der Klimarahmenkonvention das „Paris Agreement“ angenommen. Von der Weltgemeinschaft ist ein gemeinsamer Weg des Kampfes gegen den menschengemachten Klimawandel eingeschlagen worden. Es ist ein ermutigendes Zeichen, dass dies trotz eines schwach ausgebildeten internationalen Systems und einer Vielzahl aktueller Bedrohungen wie Krieg, Terror, soziale Ungleichheit und einem kollapsbedrohten Finanzsystem gelungen ist.
